It’s time for a Rivian R1T service update. Unfortunately, my truck’s glass roof developed a crack, and I had to take it to the Rivian Service Center for a replacement. In this post, I’ll share my experience with the entire process, including the insurance claim, the service appointment, and a surprising discovery when I got the truck back.
The Cracked Roof and Insurance Claim
It all started with a small crack in the glass roof of my R1T. It gradually worsened over time, likely due to the intense California heat. Since I have comprehensive coverage on my Rivian insurance (through Tesla Insurance), I decided to file a claim.
I learned that Rivian doesn’t work directly with insurance companies for repairs. This means that I had to pay for the repair upfront and then get reimbursed by Tesla Insurance. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it’s the process Rivian has in place.
Rivian Service Center Experience
I scheduled a service appointment at the Rivian Service Center in Eastvale, California. The service advisor was friendly and helpful, and they were able to get me in within a week. They also offered me a loaner car through Enterprise, which was a nice surprise since the repair wasn’t warranty-related.
Enterprise gave me a choice between a Kia Niro EV, a Hyundai Kona Electric, and an Audi A5 Cabriolet. Initially, I chose the Kona Electric, but they were able to swap it out for the Audi A5 Cabriolet, which was a fun experience!

The Glass Roof Replacement
The glass roof replacement itself took about two days. When I picked up the truck, I was happy to see that the new roof looked perfect. However, I soon discovered a surprise: a strange circular mark on the roof and a noticeable scratch on the rear spoiler!
The service advisor agreed that the circular mark wasn’t supposed to be there, and they’re going to investigate further. As for the scratch, they claim it was pre-existing, but I’m confident it wasn’t there before. They’re going to replace the rear spoiler as well, but it’s still frustrating to deal with these issues after a service appointment.
Cost and Reimbursement
The total cost for the glass roof replacement was $1,849.38. I’ve already submitted the invoice to Tesla Insurance for reimbursement, but I’m not sure how long it will take to get my money back. Hopefully, it won’t be too long!
Final Thoughts
Overall, my experience with the Rivian Service Center was a mixed bag. While the service advisor was helpful and the repair was completed in a timely manner, the additional damage to the truck was a major disappointment. I’m hoping this was an isolated incident and that future service experiences will be smoother.
I’ll keep you updated on the reimbursement process and the repair of the new damage. In the meantime, I’m enjoying having my R1T back and can’t wait to take it on some more adventures!
